Although
originally planned as a two-storey side extension to a house
in Cunliffe Road, comprising an additional bedroom and bathroom
over a garage and utility room, funding difficulties resulted
in the scheme being pared back to a single storey-storey
extension. Simple in it's accomodation, the project was notable
for it's difficult plot which tapered to the rear as a result
of it's location on a sharp bend in the road. The problem
was exacerbated by Development Control requiring that no
part of the proposed development should be any nearer to
the public highway than any part of the existing building
or adjacent buildings, thus prohibiting the use of the wider
end of the plot to it's full potential.
